Lead Mechanical Automation Engineer

Structo is looking for an experienced Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to help drive the development of new automation solutions. You will be involved from the start to completion of custom application-specific automation solutions. Projects will range from fully automating our printers to developing new customer-specific automation solutions for product handling, automated inspection and end-to-end automated printing solutions.



  • Lead the design and development of automation systems and mechanical components.
  • Direct and supervise the delivery of automation solutions with external partners.
  • Ensure automation solutions meet requirements and specifications.
  • Develop system and component specifications as needed.
  • Support installation, troubleshooting and acceptance testing at customer sites.
  • Understand and specify fit for purpose components: motor and driver sizing and selection, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, custom end effectors.
  • Direct and mentor senior and associate engineers.
  • Work with remote sites and suppliers.


  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering
  • 10-12 years of experience working on custom application-specific automation solutions.
  • A strong desire to work on the technical aspects of automation systems.
  • 5 years of experience supervising and directing external partners.
  • Experience with electrical circuit diagrams, PLC ladder logic and basic programming languages.
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable and easy to work with.
  • Strong CAD skills, Solidworks experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of tolerance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of FMEA.
