Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Structo is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to help drive the development of our next-generation 3D printing products. You will be involved in the full product development lifecycle of our printers from helping shape the vision and plan in the boardroom to optimizing production on the factory floor. Close collaboration with our cross-disciplinary R&D team will allow you to work effectively with rapid feedback from product designers, test engineers, chemical formulations experts, and manufacturing technicians.

 

Within our engineering team, you will help design, analyze, and optimize complex mechanical systems, support manufacturing partners and work with contract design firms to deliver our next generation products. Your independent and methodical work ethic and strong creative abilities will help you succeed in this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of mechanical systems for our next generation 3D printers and other Structo products including start to finish ownership of hardware from specification to design, prototype and manufacturing.
  • Superb communication, both verbal and written to manage priorities, identify risks, coordinate requests and align deliverables with cross-functional teams.
  • Direct and mentor early career engineers.
  • Contribute excellent analytical, organizational, troubleshooting skills.
  • Develop and coordinate DOEs to optimize/improve product margin and determine component and system performance/feasibility, manufacturing procedures and process specifications.
  • Identify product improvement opportunities and lead the change.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree/Master in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in mechanical product design, mid to low volume custom mechanical product development preferred.
  • Experience with precision mechanisms desired - linear stages, linkage systems, tool changers and other systems requiring precise movement / control.
  • Experience integrating electronics to drive mechanical components.
  • Proficient in CAD skills using solidworks.
  • Strong understanding of Tolerance Analysis.
  • Experience using FEA to optimize structural components and systems.
  • Understanding of the Reliability Testing required to qualify for hardware
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable and easy to work with.
  • Good analytical and presentation skills.

 

Advantageous Skills:

  • Experience with LabView, MATLAB, Python, feedback control systems.
